Tulum & Mexico City Travel Guide

Tulum and Mexico City deserve better than a top-10 list. Here’s the trip, planned the way I’d do it for a friend.

  • Mexico City, 3 to 4 days: Coyoacán, the Centro Histórico and standout food spots
  • The route between: flights, transfers and timing, plus a pre-trip booking checklist
  • 7–10 days

Why I’d plan it this way

In Tulum, I’d start in town for the restaurants and days out, then move to the beach. Where you stay changes how the whole trip feels.

That’s the kind of decision I explain in this guide. I’ve taken this trip myself, and I’ve included the details I’d share with a friend planning it.

I’ve been travelling my whole life. The truth is, I’ve never been rich. What I have is an eye for value, and more than fifteen years of planning and logistics behind every recommendation.

Two sides of Mexico.
One workable route.

Start with Tulum’s ruins and cenotes, make time for the beach, then fly to Mexico City. Follow the core plan or add nights where you’d like to slow down.

Maya ruins above the Caribbean Sea in Tulum

Start in Tulum town

Settle in, explore the ruins and swim in cenotes. The guide covers a Cobá outing, local tour contacts and an optional extra day.

Palm trees and white sand on Tulum beach

Leave time for the beach

Move to the coast for slower days. Compare beach stays, find somewhere good to eat and decide which experiences suit you.

Paper parasols and red lanterns strung over a Mexico City street

Finish in Mexico City

Explore Coyoacán and the historic centre, with suggestions for Teotihuacán and Xochimilco. Food stops are part of the plan.

For the trip you want to plan yourself

You’re happy to make the bookings. You’d just like a thoughtful starting point, with the places and practical details in one place.

A route, with room to adjust

The core trip is busy at seven days. Give it ten days if you’d prefer more breathing room, or add nights around the places that interest you most.

Two ways to read it

The PDF keeps the original page layout. The EPUB lets you adjust the text in a compatible reading app. Download the files before travelling so you can read them offline.

Clear about what’s included

You’re buying the guide and its recommendations. Flights, hotels, transfers and activities are booked and paid for separately. This is a ready-made itinerary.

Hear from my travellers

I absolutely loved the cenote tours, and the local guide contact she shared was awesome. Totally worth the money.

Sarah Miller Austin, Texas

Loved the itinerary format: precise, clear, and very reasonably priced for what’s included. The Tulum transportation tips were super helpful. It was great to be ready for that.

Nina Bianchi Newcastle, Australia

I live in Miami and have been to Mexico a few times, but Olga inspired me to visit Tulum and I absolutely enjoyed it. I highly recommend all the spots in her trip plan.

A few useful answers

If you’re wondering whether this guide is right for your trip, you can ask me directly.

Why buy this when I can Google it or ask ChatGPT?

Google and ChatGPT will give you a thousand options and no way to know which are real. I’ve stayed in these hotels, eaten in these places and taken this route myself. You get one plan you can trust, with the details that don’t show up in listings: timing, transport and what’s actually worth it.

How do I receive the guide?

You’ll receive a download link by email after purchase, with both the PDF and EPUB files. Check your spam folder if you can’t find it, or email olga@luxetravelstudio.com for help.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Open the PDF in a PDF reader, or the EPUB in a compatible reading app such as Apple Books. Download the files before you travel to read them offline. Opening websites or booking services will still need an internet connection.

Do I have to follow every day exactly?

No. Use the route as a starting point. Add nights, skip a stop or choose a different hotel. Seven days is a full schedule; allow more time if you prefer a slower pace.

Does the price include any travel bookings?

No. The price is for the digital guide in PDF and EPUB formats. Flights, accommodation, transfers, meals and activities are separate. You arrange those bookings yourself.

Will prices and opening times still be the same?

They can change. Use the guide to choose your route and shortlist places, then confirm current prices, opening hours and availability directly before booking.

What if I’d like a trip built around me?

If you’d like a plan around your dates, interests and pace, I also offer personalised trip planning. That is a separate service.
